WHAT IS FULL-TIME EQUIVALENT (FTE) ?

Full Time Equivalent (FTE)

A full-time equivalent employee works full-time. The following formula is used to determine the number of full-time equivalent positions required for a particular program: Total FTEs means total scheduled work hours divided by the number of hours worked by a full-time employee per week. For example, a program requiring 600 scheduled work hours per week and a 40-hour full-time work week will require the equivalent of twenty full-time Product Specialists. (600/40=20). Additionally, an FTE calculation can account for staffing circumstances in which numerous part-time employees’ cumulative weekly work hours equal the weekly work hours of a full-time employee.
